The Kings have their work cut out for them when they face the Houston Rockets in Houston on January 13th. This is a situation of both teams restructuring for the future as both teams look nothing like their early 2000′s heydays. The Kings look to get back to their previous dominance in the west with outstanding play from their youthful stalwarts. The Rockets are still handling the fallout from the retirement of Yao Ming. The Rockets are favored by 3 points by the oddsmakers and this looks to be a challenging game to call.

Former Indiana Hoosier great Keith Smart coaches the Kings.

The Rockets look drastically diverse from the days of Yao Ming and Steve Francis running the show. Youthful PG Kyle Lowry runs the offense with the aid of PF Luis Scola and PG Goran Dragic. Vets help the Houston offense with fellow SG’s Courtney Lee and Kevin Martin chipping in when they’re able to. Former Celtics great Kevin McHale leads the Rockets at head coach.

Just a few years ago, this match would’ve been all over television with the likes of Mike Bibby, Vlade Divac, Chris Webber, and Bobby Jackson pacing the Kings. The Rockets had Yao Ming, Steve Francis, Robert Horry, and Tracy McGrady behind them. The times have definitely transformed things for both teams as the era of free agency and salary caps have rendered long-term dynasties nearly obsolete.
This should be an awesome match between these 2 once-mighty franchises with the game itself too close to call.
